Carolyn Luu is the heart and soul of San Francisco’s Akimi Hair Gallery. Here are some insights into her background and approach to hair care:
As a professional — “I’ve been in the hair industry for more than 20 years. I’ve been fortunate to have trained with many wonderful, talented stylists and colorists from the Vidal Sassoon Academy and DiPietro/Todd Salon in San Francisco.
"At the time, I thought I was simply being groomed to be a good stylist. In retrospect, I now realize they were also grooming me to be a better person. To all of these teachers, some of whom are no longer with us, I owe a debt of gratitude.”
As a person — “My parents taught me to always maintain my integrity. I don’t think I could have survived in this competitive industry without it. I strive to be a better person every day. I am constantly learning, growing and evolving. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from everyone around me: my family, friends and clients.”
As an artist — “I create from the heart, not from ego. Your perspectives and best interests are at the forefront of my mind when we work together. Having rapport and a great relationship with my clients is essential to my work.
"It’s important that I understand my clients not only on a professional level, but on a personal one as well. The better I understand them, the better I am at serving their needs.”
Giving back — Having overcome adversities and challenges, Carolyn believes strongly in helping others and her approach to business flows from that perspective.
